On record before it’s covered

Follow a groundworks gang through the day they pour a concrete base: labour and plant recorded once, the reinforcement photographed before it is covered, the concrete matched to its ticket, one soft spot recorded as it was found, and the office’s view at the end of the day.

How the walkthrough works

Six short chapters follow one groundworks gang through the day they pour a concrete base, from the morning diary to the office’s view at the end of the day.

Guided playback takes about a minute and a half. You can pause at any time, choose a chapter, or take each step yourself.

  1. Chapter 01 of 06

The day starts on the record

The gang at Plot 4: the site engineer holding a tablet, a groundworker kneeling at the edge of Base B2 behind barriers, Base B1 with its timber formwork, reinforcement cage and capped starter bars, and the site manager in the cabin behind.
The gang, the plant on site and the day’s tasks, recorded once.

Morning at Plot 4 on Job 2417. Base B1 is dug, blinded, shuttered and reinforced, ready for its pour. Base B2 is being dug out next to it.

At 07:30 the site engineer opens the daily diary on a tablet: the ganger and the groundworker, the engineer, the site dumper, the plate compactor and the poker vibrator, and the two tasks for the day. Labour and plant are recorded once, here.

Everything in this walkthrough is illustrative. The job, people, plant, tickets, quantities, times and dates are fictional.

  2. Chapter 02 of 06

Hidden works, before they are hidden

Close to the site engineer’s tablet: the pre-pour check for Base B1, five items each with a photo, initials and a time, and three photo slots filled.
The formation and the reinforcement, photographed before the concrete covers them.

Once concrete goes in, nobody can see the formation or the reinforcement again. So the pre-pour check for Base B1 is recorded while they are still visible.

The site engineer photographs the formation and blinding at 09:10, then the reinforcement cage, its spacers and the starter bars at 09:16. Each of the five checklist items is recorded with a photo, the engineer’s initials and the time.

  3. Chapter 03 of 06

    Cleared to pour

The mixer truck parked beside Base B1, its drum turning and its chute swung over the formwork, with the pour under way.
A signed pre-pour check, then the concrete matched to its ticket.

At 09:40 the site engineer signs off the pre-pour check, and Base B1 is cleared to pour.

The mixer truck arrives at 10:25. Its delivery ticket, DT-4471 for 6.0 m³, is photographed and matched to the Base B1 pour, and the pour starts at 10:35 with the chute over the formwork.

  4. Chapter 04 of 06

    Something unexpected

Base B2 from above: the dug-out soft spot filled with light grey stone in the formation, with a groundworker kneeling at the edge and barriers behind.
A soft spot, recorded as it was found and as it was dealt with.

At 11:50 the ganger finds a soft spot in the formation at Base B2. The engineer photographs and measures it as found: about 1.2 by 0.9 metres.

It is dug out 0.4 metres deeper and filled with 1.1 tonnes of stone, photographed at each stage. The engineer records it as changed-condition note CC-03, with the photos, labour and plant time, and shares it with the commercial team for their review. It is a record of what was found and done, not a claim.

At 16:30 the engineer closes the diary. The hours for the gang, the engineer and each item of plant are captured once and reused in the diary, the note and the office’s view. The day’s records go to the office.
